Big brother really is watching us all now

- JOHN RACE, Staincross Common

Recently watching on TV, The Capture, about a government using facial recognition surveillance cameras, and then what they watched and recorded can be changed to suit the interest of the government, it made me think are we now there?

These cameras are without public consent, and are agreed by our MPs in Parliament that these cameras are being placed in public places.

Is this another step towards a Big Brother surveillance government?

Our council could be moving that way, it recently updated its town centre surveillance camera equipment, what was their reason? Well it enables them to be used for facial recognition.

This camera surveillance is not for the benefit of the public, though they are being conditioned to accept it, and encouraged to take part.

They buy mobile phones, cyclists are wearing body cameras, motorists are using dashboard cameras, and householders are fitting what are called ‘security cameras’ to watch what is on their property.

Years ago, who would have thought this watching would have come about with nobody knowing clear restrictions on their use?

Let’s just consider, the home security cameras, when you walk along a street, or be out and about in your garden, the house you just passed or maybe the one around the corner, may have such cameras, that watch and record your movements, and they are active 24/7.

What ever their reason is for having a house security camera, should these people be allowed to watch and record beyond the boundary of their property?
