Excessive deaths
THERE were more excess deaths in Barnsley during the pandemic than anywhere else in South Yorkshire, it has been revealed.
The findings from a consultation on bereavement support was published earlier this week – with the scale of loss laid bare in the report.
During the pandemic there were 5,525 excess bereavements in Barnsley – higher than the 4,875 in Sheffield, 4,535 in Rotherham and 4,480 in Doncaster.
