Not just Tories to blame for mess

- HARRY BARRON, Sheffield

I am afraid our local borough representative councillor Kitching is being rather disingenuous when she refers to the cost-of-living emergency created by this callous and economically incompetent Tory Government.

It was after all her current party leader Ed Davey who during his coalition days introduced a moratorium on fracking and then had the audacity to boast about it.

A project that if allowed to be pursued could not only have made us energy independent by now but also an exporter of energy, relieving pressure on many European countries, especially Germany.

I once told her that I have no party allegiance and always vote for the party I think will do the least damage, which leaves me baffled by the Labour Party’s massive lead in the polls.

At a political meeting in Penistone in 2010 our former labour MP told us that a Labour Government if elected would be spending hundreds of billions of pounds on wind turbines which at the time produced one per cent of our energy needs.

Even though I pointed out that 13 turbines on Royd Moor hadn’t moved for nearly a month through lack of wind and we were still paying a twenty five per cent subsidy even when they didn’t produce, the meeting remained fixated with renewable energy.

However does anyone really believe that Sir Keir Starmer’s one and only idea that a labour run energy company going for zero emissions by 2030 will solve our energy and cost of living crisis?

Perhaps someone could explain why with climate change so unreliable and out of control that people fear it will destroy the planet, are we putting so much reliance on wind and sun for our future energy needs, are they no longer part of the climate?

If the world should ever achieve zero carbon emissions would our green vegetation survive or would the world become a desert?
