Patrols stepped up in Mapplewell

TARGETED patrols will take place in Mapplewell following an increase in antisocial behaviour.

The high visibility patrols will be directed to the park area in Mapplewell, after groups of youths are suspected to be taking wheelie bins and setting them alight there.

A police spokesperson said: “This is not just causing acts of criminal damage to the equipment in the park but it also presents a fire risk not just to those involved, but also to members of the public who use the park on a regular basis.

“Directed patrols will now be made to the location by various agencies including South Yorkshire Police and Barnsley Council.

“Anyone caught committing acts of antisocial behaviour or damage within the park will be dealt with robustly by local officers.”
