St Paul’s

Last Sunday the mass was conducted by Canon Ian Wildey. This was a family and harvest mass. He was assisted on the altar by Lynda Brown, Malcolm Patterson, Debbie Griffin and Daisy Hirst. Side duties carried out by Janice Rees and Shirley Rawson. The organist was Robert Rowland. Members of the congregation took items for the harvest and placed them at the altar. Readings were given by Malcolm Patterson who also led the Prayers. The gospel was read by Canon Wildey. During the mass one of the youngest members of the congregation Amelia Elsie Rose was baptised. Following the service church warden Mary Bullock announced that the Bishop of Leeds had appointed Rev Darren Percival currently serving as incumbent of Cross Green and Richmond Hill in Leeds Episcopal Area as interim vicar of St Paul’s, his institution and induction would be announced later. Rev

Percival is not a stranger to the area as he was a former curate at St Mary’s Barnsley and St Paul’s Old Town, and has conducted service at St Paul’s Monk Bretton during a previous interregnum. In the evening there was a harvest supper in the church centre, where donations of food were auctioned off, the sale of the perishable items raised £221.45 which will be given to a local charity following a meeting of the Parochial Church Council. The non-perishable items were donated to a charity that deals with local homeless and the village cafe which prepares food for them.
