Praise for ex-councillor
A FORMER councillor’s work has been praised by his colleagues.
Former deputy leader of the council Jim Andrews lost his seat in the Rockingham ward to Tory candidate Coun David White in May.
Mr Andrews, who had served since 1986, was praised by councillors who sit on the council’s health and wellbeing board, of which he was chair.
A message of thanks was read out yesterday, which said: “At the local elections, Coun Andrews was not re-elected. He would therefore no longer be able to be the chair of the health and wellbeing board.
“We recognise his exceptional leadership and hard work was instrumental to shape the new health and wellbeing strategy.
“Coun Andrews was highly thought of for tackling health and social inequalities in Barnsley and for improving the lives of people across the borough.”
