Penistone’s Tadek finishes third in English Schools Fell Running Championsh­ip

PENISTONE Grammar School pupil Tadek Kunicki-Holda finished third in his category of the English Schools Fell Running Championsh­ips.

He was taking on the best runners in years eight and nine across the country at Giggleswic­k School. He completed the tough hilly course in 21-11.

In the same race, Penistone’s Flynn Rogers placed 55th in 26-34.

Samuel Thompson placed 79th in the boys’ year ten and 11 race with 42-37.

In the year ten and 11 girls’ race, Millie Powell finished in 21st place with 36-47.

Three Penistone Footpath Runners took part in the London Marathon.

First back for the club was Ian Sutcliffe in a time of 3-28-23.

Ian was also inside the top 100 for the men’s over60 age category, placing 91st.

Next in, just a few minutes behind, was Ian Walker in 3-32-40 followed by Matthew Coldwell in 3-42-47.

Barnsley AC’s Stuart Wilson recorded a sub-three-hour time of 2-58-42.

Barnsley Harrier Nicola MacDonald recorded her second marathon PB this year, finishing 21,005th in 4-33-26, another 3-06 faster.

Barnsley Harrier Simon Haywood had a very busy weekend, running four races in two days at the Milton Keynes Autumn Series.

On Saturday, he finished fourth overall and first over45 in 20-00 at the Salcey Forest Park Race, then won the Run For Willen 5k in 21-46, and finished with the Milton Keynes 10k – coming 11th overall and third over45 in 43-47.

The following day, Simon was fifth in the Autumn Marathon in 3-26-20.

Penistone were represente­d by a single team at the Hodgson Brothers Mountain Relay in the Lake District.

The event is run over four legs with runners competing in pairs.

The team placed 38th in the open category with a total time of 5-31-01.

They got off to a very strong start with the first pairing of Damian Kilpin and George Parr giving them 12th place after leg one. Subsequent legs were run by

Ian Charleswor­th and Paul Fryers, then Sarah Walch and Becky Timms then and Steve Sanders and Tom Fryers.

In Northumber­land, Penistone’s

Andrew Taylor completed the Kielder

10k Race in 59-48. Barnsley Harrier John Moss finished 542nd out of 1,046 finishers in 4-22-11. This was a course improvemen­t by 1-07-55.

Penistone’s Ruby Sanderson was fourth lady at the Holme Valley Trail Half Marathon. Keith Gordon claimed first place in the men’s over70 category.

Harrier Caroline Batty finished 35th and took the first women’s over45 prize in 2-21-04.

Harrier Adam Chambers finished

25th out of 230 in 1-15-43 at the Curbar Commotion ten-mile fell race.

Harrier Emma Moore finished as first woman overall at the Oxspring Trunce Fell Race Series.

At the Stairway to Heaven Race,

Penistone’s Lesley Parker was first in the women’s over45 category and Heather Lindley grabbed first place in the women’s over55 category.

There was a second place for Dawn Godley in the women’s over60 category.

In Long Eaton, Penistone’s Lucy Clough placed second in the Erewash Aquathlon.

The race involved a 400m swim followed by a 5k run.

Barnsley AC’s Heidi Quigley took on the Chester Metric Marathon. She completed the 26.2k course in a PB of 2-06-30, more than five minutes quicker than her 2021 time.

She was also the first over40 woman. Barnsley AC’s Paul Fieldsend was first man in 2-46-06 at the 20-mile distance in the Rothwell Cakeathon.

At the Great Scottish Run Half Marathon, Barnsley AC’s Lee Pickering ran a time of 2-00-37 while Rachel Lancaster finished in 2-06-39.

Barnsley AC’s Gail Colville ran for her Spanish club Los Bandidos in the 14th race in Circuito de Carreras Populares Diputación de Almeria. She was the first woman in the 8.3k trail race through the town and surroundin­g countrysid­e of Gádor. Her time was 35-39.

Barnsley AC’s Vicky Shaw was the second woman in the ‘20 minutes and over’ wave at the September Leeds 5k

based at the Brownlee Centre and Cycle Track. She also set a PB of 20-13.

Shaw broke the over40 women’s course record at Oakwell Hall Parkrun, knocking 31 seconds off with a time of 21-30.

Barnsley AC’s Adam Lavelle took on the East Coast Park ParkRun in Singapore. He came sixth with a time of 18-47.

Barnsley AC’s Darrell Harrison, Jayne Manley, Lee Spensley and John Wroe all posted PBs at Pontefract ParkRun.

Penistone had the first three finishers at the Penistone ParkRun.
