Savings set to be made due to LED lighting Artist is bringing the past to life with her paintings

- By Jack Tolson

A SCHEME to use more energy-efficient lighting at Barnsley Hospital could save its ruling trust more than £300,000 a year, according to a report.

The project has seen almost 5,000 LEDs installed, increasing the site’s LED use from 8.9 per cent to 50 per cent.

The report said: “The trust had previously requested funding through the NHS Efficiency Fund for the LED lighting initiative.

“This was to replace 50 per cent of the lighting with energy-efficient LEDs.

“The project had gone £39,000 overbudget due to emergency lighting but to date, 4,919 LED fittings have been installed. The benefits of the project include the reduction of energy costs, carbon reduction and lower maintenance-related costs.

“In-year savings are calculated to be £313,000, but this is likely to increase due to the current energy price inflation.”

AN art teacher has been bringing black and white photos from days gone by to life by repainting them in colour.

Lucy Wood, 41, from Penistone, has been going through thousands of photos from Penistone Archives Group to repaint them.

She said: “Of late I have been painting ghosts of past working from black and white photographs from the town archive trying to capture the colour and feel of the times.

“The group has around 10,000 photos and I’ve been repainting the ‘ghosts of the past’. I have only lived in Penistone for seven years but always knew my family were here until 1915.

“Not only am I reconnecting with roots I am gaining recognition within the community and finding my art helps others to recall the importance of place.”

Lucy’s paintings can be found on www.peakpainter.com.
