Lee 18 minutes ahead of target in gruelling 57-mile Scottish race

BARNSLEY AC’s Lee Hatfield finished 18 minutes ahead of his target time at the Glasgow to Edinburgh Ultra Marathon.

The 57-mile race follows the waterways between the two cities.

Starting in the dark with a head torch, he set off from Glasgow’s Riverside Museum at 6am on Saturday morning then completed the traditiona­l marathon distance in less than four hours.

He crossed the finish line with his two children in a time of 9-41-50.

Lee’s ultimate goal is to do the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc in France.

Barnsley AC’s Gail Colville ran for her Spanish Club Los Bandidos in the 15th race in Circuito de Carreras Populares Diputación de Almeria.

A 7k one-lap course including some tough hills in Antas saw her finish as second woman in 29-45.

Penistone Footpath Runner Julia Johnson won the women’s over55 age category at the Morley 10k.

Julia’s time was 45-12.

At the Manchester Half Marathon,

Penistone’s Matthew Robinson grabbed third place in the men’s over55 category in 1-23-05. Martin Ball was fifth in the men’s over50 category in 1-21-59 and Andrew Heppenstal­l finished in 1-19-39.

Barnsley AC’s Robert Elstone finished in 1-29-13 and Paul Fieldsend in 1-33-18.

Penistone’s Gareth Irvine was first over40 man and fifth overall in 19-25 at the Run for Wildlife 5k.

At the Sheffield 10k, Penistone’s Richard Docker came third in the men’s over60 age category in a time of 48-49.

There was more success for Penistone at the Rother Valley 10k where Johnathan Bentley was fifth overall and first in the men’s over50 age category in 38-46.

Penistone’s junior Flynn Rogers took part in the Sheffield Fun Run and placed first in his age category in a time of 10-49 for the 2.5k run.

On the fells, two Penistone runners competed in the Langdale Fell Race in the Lake District.

First back was Damian Kilpin in 2-4150, closely followed by Phil Montgomery who finished in 2-45-53.

Penistone’s David Needham achieved the milestone of 300 ParkRuns while taking part in the Barnsley ParkRun.

Penistone’s George Parr was the first man back at the Penistone ParkRun.

At the Wanstead Flats ParkRun, Penistone’s Malcolm Rose broke the men’s over65 course record in 19-46.

Penistone’s Lee Nash had a good run to place second at the Goole ParkRun in 18-21. Monty Hallam was second at the

Barnsley Junior ParkRun with 9-30 and Lauren Lees was second female at the

Dukeries Junior ParkRun in 9-30.
