BWFC concede 118th-minute cup winner and now focus on midweek trip to Hull City

-

BARNSLEY Women’s FC suffered an agonising cup loss on Sunday and are now focusing on their league match at Hull City on Wednesday.

The Reds conceded a 118th-minute winner in a 2-1 home defeat to higher league Liverpool Feds in the League Cup.

The visitors scored early but Abby Parkin levelled on the stroke of halftime.

Manager Lois Daniels said: “I came away from the game with huge pride in our team and my players, after leaving absolutely everything on the pitch.

“We conceded an early goal from a corner in the opening two minutes of the game, and after that we were relentless. I was really happy with what I saw on Sunday, and it gives me great belief moving forward with this team into the coming weeks.

“Sunday’s game also saw the return of Maddison Foye after numerous months out injured.

“We were delighted to have her return to action.”

Barnsley fell off the top of the National League Division One North as other teams played.

The Reds now visit mid-table Hull City on Wednesday.

Lois said: “Hull is going to be a real challenge for us, playing midweek with the vast majority of girls in the squad working full time.

“But it’s a challenge we look forward to and have a plan for.”
