Trotters 8, Reds 0 – October 6, 1934

One of Barnsley’s heaviest ever defeats. They had just sold star winger and future England internatio­nal Dickie Spence to Chelsea and were still adapting to Division Two after promotion the previous season. Bolton, who would finish second, destroyed their struggling visitors.

Trotters 2, Reds 1 – February 6, 1982

Neil Cooper levelled for Barnsley early in the second half after Tony Henry had put the hosts ahead. But Chris Thompson got the winner for Bolton.

Trotters 1, Reds 1 – December 26, 1997

Barnsley’s Boxing Day Premier League game saw them dominate the first half but only have Georgi Hristov’s goal to show for it, among several missed chances.

Gudni Bergsson levelled from 35 yards to deny the visitors a win on their first trip to the Reebok Stadium.

David Tuttle scored an early own goal but Craig Hignett and Darren Barnard netted superb strikes to put Dave Bassett’s side 2-1 up. But Tuttle deflected in a shot by Ricardo Gardner.

Trotters 3, Reds 1 – December 2, 2017

A fourth successive loss for Paul Heckingbot­tom’s

Barnsley. Gary Madine opened the scoring then Tom Bradshaw immediatel­y won and scored a spot-kick. Madine netted a penalty after a foul by Liam Lindsay then Mark Little secured victory for the hosts who would eventually stay up at the Reds’ expense on the final day.
