Never-ending roadworks

I know several correspondents in the last few weeks have aired their frustrations about the sheer number of roadworks which seem to be taking place simultaneously across the borough.

My commute from Hoyland via Wombwell to Barnsley town centre involved delays at no less than FIVE different sets of roadworks on one day alone last week.

I seem to recall many years ago, the council announced it was taking on some responsibility for co-ordinating roadworks to avoid this.

Does anyone still perform this task or do we just leave it to all the different utility providers to do what they want, when they want as that is what currently seems to be happening.
