Malcolm wins category and breaks Penistone Footpath Runners’ record at Knutsford 10k

PENISTONE Footpath Runner Malcolm Rose enjoyed great success at the

Knutsford 10k.

He won the men’s over65 category in a time of 39-26.

That broke his own club record for that age group.

Barnsley AC’s Gareth Cooke and Naomi Drakeford ran the Yorkshire Marathon.

In challengin­g windy conditions,

Gareth finished 16th with 2-38-17 while Naomi was tenth woman in 3-10-44.

Penistone’s Michael Walsh finished in 3-42-28. Barnsley Harrier Michael Grain finished 196th in 3-08-31, with Simon Haywood not far behind in 3-13-18.

At the Yorkshire ten-mile race,

Penistone’s Paul Gee finished in a time of 1-19-00. Barnsley AC’s Heidi Quigley set a PB of 1-13-04, 27 seconds quicker.

Harrier Paula Mills was tenth overall and first over55 woman in 1-30-42 at the

Thoresby Park Ten-Mile Trail Race.

10k Road Race, finishing 25th overall out of 1,528 finishers in 38-31. There were PBs for Neil Armitage, 1-22 faster, Deborah Wilson, 35 seconds faster, Mark Rawnsley, 15 seconds faster, and Niamh Leigh Barnes. Barnsley AC’s Jenny Wakeman was first over65 woman in 49-26. Sarah Burton finished in 1-04-24, closely followed by Laura Mills (1-06-40) and Caron Holburt (1-07-30). Caroline Spensley’s time was 1-15-01.

At the Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Autumn 5k Race, Harrier Geoff Hayes finished 162nd overall out of 702 and second over70 man in 28-58.

At the Holmfirth 10k, Penistone’s

Lesley Parker claimed third place in the women’s over40 category in a time of 51-29. Barnsley AC’s Jayne Manley finished in 1-04-59 on a tough hilly course starting at Hade Edge and taking in views over Winscar Reservoir and Thurlstone Moor.

On the fells, Penistone’s Becky Timms completed the Withins Skyline Fell Race in 1-04-07.

The South Yorkshire Cross Country League started in Norfolk Park in Sheffield. Penistone runners finished in the top ten in both the men’s and women’s races.

Ruby Sykes was just outside the top three, finishing in fourth place on the hilly course. Lucy Clough was next in for Penistone in the women’s race.

In the men’s race, Kai Sunman came fifth. He was followed in by George Parr,

Matt Robinson, Mark Law, Andrew Shelborne, Dan Limb and Paul Fryers.

Tadek Kunicki-Holda claimed third place in the boy’s junior race.

Debutant Heidi Williams and Flynn Rogers also competed.

Alfie Pleasants made his debut for Barnsley AC in the under 11 boys’ race, finishing in 6-24. In the under 13 girls’ race, Abigail Andrews finished in 12-31 while Isobel Guirey’s time was 14-22. Under 15 boy Joe Cox finished in 15-36. In the women’s race, Gail Colville was first over55 woman in 22-27.

Vicky Shaw ran 22-43 and Faye Lund finished in 27-00.

Over65 man Dave Allemby finished in 27-09 and over75 Rod Scholes 31-47.

In the men’s race, Shaun Pickersgil­l recorded 34-28 and Ray Archer 46-54.

Penistone’s James Fryers claimed first place at the Leazes ParkRun in 17-44.

Penistone’s Monty Hallam was second at the Barnsley Junior ParkRun in 9-04 and was first male.

David Horsfall completed his 200th ParkRun at the Barnsley ParkRun.
