Praise for council team

Crux of the Matter – a community group – are quick to complain about environmental concerns or problems in the Doncaster Road/Sheffield Road area, a main gateway to our town.

Given our concerns as a community group, we raised with Barnsley Council our concerns at the poor state of the area with fly-tipping and other antisocial behaviours – a constant irritant to law-abiding neighbours.

On this occasion the council listened and acted – we must congratulate them on the tremendous efforts and outcomes at the ‘action day’ in the Junction Street/ Oswald Street area on October 20.

The resources put in place to organise dustbins, clean the streets, clear weeds and offer support and advice to residents was amazing and well-received by local residents the council staff were a credit to the town.

Of course there’s still much more that can be done to improve this gateway, however the area in question is much tidier and improved thanks to the council’s know-how and intervention.

Let’s just hope the minority of residents who create the problems in the first place respect what has been completed in the longer term and love their neighbourhood.
