St Paul’s

Fr Michael Johnson celebrated mass last Sunday, he was assisted on the altar by Lynda Brown, Malcolm Patterson and Debbie Griffin. Organist was Robert Rowland. Side duties were undertaken by Janet Richards and Shirley Rawson. Readings were given by David Dewey and Sarah Dewey. The psalm was sung by the choir. Fr Johnson read the gospel, gave the sermon and led the prayers. Next Sunday the mass at 10am will celebrate All Saints Day which has been moved from the following Tuesday so consequent­ly there will be no mass on Tuesday. All Souls’ Day will take place at 6.30pm next Wednesday when the names of loved ones who have died will be read out. All are welcome. Coffee and brunch will be held tomorrow from 10.30am until noon. Forget breakfast and lunch that day and come along for a chat at the church hall in St Paul’s Church, Monk Bretton. Following mass, church warden Mary Bullock informed the congregati­on that the new vicar, Fr Darren Percival’s institutio­n and induction will be on Wednesday, January 25 next year at 7.30pm which the Bishop of Wakefield and the Archdeacon of Pontefract will officiate.

Sun

Playing in the Wednesday night Smithies league, the Sun beat Singing Man 4-3. Friday night’s speed quiz is held from 8pm. Last week’s winners were Ben and mates who scored 185 points. This week there’ll be a Halloween quiz, tomorrow is race night and on Sunday a Halloween party will be held from 5pm for adults only. Fancy dress is optional.

Club

Playing in the Monday night pool league, Monk Bretton lost 4-3 to Barugh Green.

The team was Keinan Ashton, Josh Juhasz, Steve Juhasz, Les Price, Dave Woodruff and Neil Hogley. Bingo is played every Thursday night from 8.30pm. This weekend’s entertainm­ent is Friday night from 8.45pm, Here’s Johnny, tomorrow night Ready or Not on stage from 8.45pm and Coyote on stage from 3.45pm on Sunday.

Pheasant

The ladies’ section hold a quiz and bingo night every Tuesday from 8pm as well as play your cards right. Playing in the Wednesday night Smithies league, Pheasant lost 4-3 to New Lodge. The team was Josh Juhasz, Steve Juhasz, Les Price, Levi Leigh, Duane Etheringto­n, Dougie Christmas and Daryl Cooke. Thursday night is Buskers night starting from 8pm.

Chapel

The morning service last Sunday took the form of cafe church and was led by Rev Claire Rawlinson. The organist was Rosemary Denman. Yoga will take place on Tuesday from 7-8pm. Hartbeeps meet on Wednesdays from 10am-3.30pm. There is the One Stop shop from 9.45-11am on Thursday. U3A Dancing takes place on Fridays from 7-9pm. The service on Sunday is at the usual time of 10.30am. Next Tuesday the friendship cafe will be open from 2-3.30pm and everyone is welcome to come along.
