A hot trot for brave volunteers...

-

BARNSLEY residents walked on hot coal this week to raise money for the hospital’s Make A Memory appeal.

The appeal follows on from the success of the Tiny Hearts campaign which raised £1m to create a new neonatal unit for poorly babies.

The scheme is attempting to raise money for the hospital’s Care of the Elderly ward which supports all patients, particularly those with dementia.

On Tuesday, a fire walk was held at the site – seeing people walk on hot coal to raise as much money as possible.

A spokesperson for Barnsley Hospital Charity told the Chronicle: “This was our first fire walk at the hospital and it raised funds for our Make A Memory Appeal supporting older patients and those living with dementia.

“We were supported by Barnsley Percussion Ensemble and Teagan Herbert from Hustle

Entertainment Ltd who provided our music and fire breathing entertainment free of charge which added amazing drama to the already adrenaline-fuelled event.

“We thank everyone who took part and who braved the hot coals to support us.

“We were delighted that our new fundraising officer, Sam Bentley who joined our team three weeks ago, threw himself straight into the job by also participating.”
