Main into semi
GOALKEEPING heroics and a late winner sent Wombwell Main into the semi-finals of the long-established Rotherham Charity Cup with a 2-1 win over Thrybergh’s Lord Reresby at Herringthorpe Stadium.
Wombwell ‘keeper Steve Crossland, a late stand-in for brother Dale who injured an arm at work, made three tremendous saves in the final ten minutes to keep the scores level.
With just four minutes left, Aaron Tate’s dangerous, inswinging free-kick deflected in off a defender.
Finley Durkin had given Wombwell a half-time lead but they were pegged back at the start of the second half and it remained in the balance before the late clincher. They join holders AFC Three Feathers from Sheffield, Mexborough’s Dog Daisy United and Joker Wickersley Youth from Rotherham in the semi-final draw in February.
