Success for Barnsley runners at Cannon Hall league meeting and Worksop Half Marathon

SUNDAY saw the second fixture in the South Yorkshire Cross Country League

at the Cannon Hall Country Park near Cawthorne.

Weather conditions were mixed with initial sunshine being replaced by heavy rain.

Penistone Foopath Runners were well represente­d in the junior and senior races.

The pick of the juniors was Tadek Kunicki-Holda who repeated the third place he achieved in the first fixture in the boys’ under 15 race.

In the senior women’s race, Ruby Sykes repeated her fourth place from the first fixture.

Kai Sunman came fourth in the men’s senior race.

Barnsley Harrier Alan Ford finished as first over45 man, Paul Johnson second over35 man and Paul Wheatley fourth over70 man.

Penistone’s James Mumford was third over40 man in 1-20-44 at the Worksop Half Marathon.

First woman back for Penistone was Chloe Worth in a time of 1-46-03.

Others running were Gareth Irvine (1-29-57), Keith Gordon (2-02-12) and Tracey Woodward (2-21-52).

David Thompson was the first of 16 Barnsley Harriers at Worksop, finishing 45th out of 1,137 finishers in 1-25-56.

He set a PB by 12 minutes and 44 seconds.

The Harriers recorded five new huge PBs on the day, with Stephen Burnley another 12-07 faster, Josh Jordan-Clough 11-46 faster, Ryan Senior 9-52 faster and Neil Armitage 5-52 faster.

Father and daughter Alan Bowers and Amy Walker completed their first half marathons.

Barnsley AC’s Michael Grain finished in 1-22-29, Heidi Quigley in 1-40-18 and Janette Jackson in 2-05-19.

There was success for Penistone at the

Padfield Fell Race, a five-mile event with 1,000 feet of climbing near Glossop.

Sarah Walch was third woman and there were age group wins for Richard Cottam (first male over40), Damien Kilpin (first male over45) and Steve Storey (first male over65).

In the 17th and final race in the Circuito de Carreras Populares Diputación de Almeria, Barnsley AC’s Gail Colville was 58th overall and second woman.

The 7.1k course went through the town of San Juan then up and down the very steep hill to the Castillo.

Gail’s time was 29-34.

At the Brigg 10k Poppy and Military Challenge Road Race, Barnsley Harrier Deborah Dearden finished 545th out of 631 finishers in 70-39.

Barnsley AC’s Keith Littlewood came third in the Bradford Runs 5k with 18-26. Penistone’s Ben Malcolm took second place at the Penistone ParkRun.

Jane Cockerton competed in her

200th ParkRun while taking part in the Hillsborou­gh ParkRun.
