MP ‘delighted’ over bill being passed

BARNSLEY Central MP Dan Jarvis has seen his bill to protect pregnant women and new parents get the green light.

His ‘Protection from Redundancy Bill’ returned to Parliament last week where it was examined and debated by MPs.

It was unanimousl­y passed and is on to its next stage to becoming law.

It seeks to extend redundancy protection­s to the period of pregnancy, adoption and shared parental leave and for a period after a new parent returns to work.

Dan told the Chronicle: “I’m delighted my bill passed committee stage and will be back for its final debate in the House of Commons on February 3, 2023.

“It’s very encouragin­g that we are so close to changing the law and to making a big difference for tens of thousands of pregnant women and new parents at work.”
