Policing priorities?
BRIAN GREGORY, Hoyland
I was quite disconcerted to read your article in last week’s Barnsley Chronicle, highlighting a rise of ‘hate crime’ in the borough, insinuating that further police resources should be provided.
In part, this is because I was brought up to believe that ‘sticks and stones may break my bones, but calling names won’t hurt me’.
I consider that, as South Yorkshire Police have limited resources, burglary, violent crime and car crime, which also have increasing rates, and few offenders are brought to justice, may be considered a priority to people in the borough.
