Labour leader has failed to make political acumen

-

NAME AND ADDRESS SUPPLIED

I read with interest the report relating to the so-called regional conference (Labour Party) in your newspaper dated October 23, 2022.

It appears the Labour leader’s affinity with the north, and Yorkshire in particular, stem from his time at university in Leeds.

It is not dissimilar to another political figure who claimed the same affinity let us hope if he does get elected he stays the course longer than she did.

However I fear we are a long way from seeing this leader in charge of the country.

Labour do have a good number of MPs committed to their constituencies not ‘career politicians’ looking to further their ‘own ambitions?’

This doesn’t seem to be enough to make people switch their allegiance, sadly our voting patterns have come to mirror the USA in making elections a ‘straight fight between two people.’

The labour leader has failed to make political acumen out of the ‘own-goals’ scored by the tories since the last election (which are well known and don’t need repeating again and again.)

Talking of ‘own-goals,’ the venue where he vowed to ‘fight for every vote in Barnsley if an early general election is called,’ was in the opulent surroundings of the Holiday Inn in Dodworth, not in BMBC’S Town Hall, nor the town’s Civic building, or the Barnsley Trades and Labour Club or dare I say it, the historic Miners’ Hall?

The majority of grass roots supporters didn’t get invited, I certainly didn’t, maybe it wasn’t common knowledge because the local branch I belong to, doesn’t function anymore, doesn’t have labour councillors or a

Labour MP for the constituency?

Hopefully some of that will change.

It needs to because so far the elected Police and Crime Commissioner and the South Yorkshire Mayor have had very little opportunity to influence what they promised to do.

Apart from that, is having regular ‘slots’ in newspapers, to enable them to air the content of the various meetings they have attended.

I’m afraid Sir Starmer is in need of some substance, vigour and detail before pulling on his boots ‘for the party’s so-called ‘Election Footing.’
