Wath heroes are remembered with innovative tribute

-

THE tribute to Wath’s fallen can be seen from above and ground level after an innovative approach was adopted.

Members of the Wath branch of the Royal

British Legion have gone one better than last year when 322 crosses were placed out to commemorate each of the fallen on the town’s war memorial.

Chairman of the Wath RBL, Rachel Harvey, said: “This year our branch wanted to do something different.

“We have lined the streets with poppies on the lampposts which are really eye-catching, but we also have our crosses.

“Our idea was to spell out ‘Lest We Forget’ on the Town Hall Green so that it could be seen from above but also look like random scattered crosses from below. It took a good few hours for Adrian Hoyle, Andy Jones and myself to complete the task.

“The next day, Scott Green, a local drone user kindly took some aerial shots for us.”

Rachel wanted to place her thanks on record for the volunteer hours and donations.

She added: “Over the last few weeks, as a team, Wath RBL branch re-painted the crosses in Wath Hall.

“B and Q Cortonwood kindly donated a tin of paint with Wayne Bramley of Bramley’s Independent Funeral Directors donating two more tins.

“We are humbled and proud of the community response to our efforts as always and hope it inspires more people to come forward and volunteer in the future.”
