Harriers Junior Football Club are pulling their weekly match forward to Saturday in tribute. There will be ex-servicemen attending the under 10s’ fixture against Silkstone Common Miners.

Nadine Buxton, who arranges the fundraising for the team told the Chronicle: “I think it’s good to remind the children what happened years ago – we’re just doing it for the kids so they know their history.” The ex-servicemen will have the standard bearer and be adorned in their uniforms and berets.

The match will also have a bugler performing ‘The Last Post’ prior to the game – which will then lead into a minute’s silence.

The team are meeting at 10.30am for an 11.02am kick off and hope that people of the community will attend to share their remembrance of the fallen soldiers.
