Grammar School parade

-

PENISTONE Grammar School have commissioned their own Signal Regiment Cadet Force – who will be parading at their memorial service today.

Joe Pinguey, who was awarded the Freedom of Penistone four years ago, has been the organiser of military events and anniversaries since 2010.

The school will have a cadet carry a military standard displayed on a pole during the parade.

Joe told the Chronicle: “There will be a photo of a close friend of mine who passed away two years ago – he was an ex-military man after serving with the 13/18 Hussars and he was the standard bearer for Penistone Royal British Legion for many years.

“He was called Kevin Knox and I have made the newlyformed Cadets custodians of this flag.

“Before he passed away he gave me his standard bearer’s mahogany pole to which I have attached our union flag. Kevin would be very proud and honoured knowing it was being used and paraded as it should be.”
