Men charged with shoplifting
TWO men have been charged following incidents of shoplifting and vehicle interference.
Stephen Ferries, 49, of Victoria Street in Hoyland, and 29-year-old Greg Mahon, of no fixed abode, were both arrested last Wednesday on suspicion of the crimes.
They were both then charged the following day – Ferries with shoplifting, and Mahon with shoplifting and vehicle interference.
The 49-year-old has been bailed and will appear at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court on November 23.
Sergeant Kevin Jenkins, from the Barnsley South Neighbourhood
Policing Team, said: “We are aware of local community concerns regarding a recent rise in vehicle crime and would encourage anyone who has been a victim to ensure it’s reported to police rather than just posting on social media.
“By reporting these incidents through the proper channels it helps us build a full picture of crime in the area and better combat it.
“We also would like to take this opportunity to issue a reminder to ensure your vehicle is locked and secure when it’s left unattended, so as to put off any opportunist thieves operating in your area.”
