Complaints over bus service is investigated

- By Jack Tolson

FRUSTRATING bus services which residents believe are being purposefully wound down are causing chaos in Wombwell.

Coun James Higginbottom, who represents the ward, has been forced to contact Stagecoach following continuous problems with the 223 service that covers the Aldham House and Windmill Road estates.

He said: “This service was introduced following a decision by Stagecoach to remove part of the 222 service that previously served Aldham House and onward into Barnsley.

“For many older and disabled passengers, this service enables them to retain their mobility and independence.

”I have become aware of daily complaints from passengers about the service, including punctuality and cancellations.

“This leaves many of my constituents deeply frustrated at your service.

“Given the previous changes to services for this area and the subsequent loss of the 222 previously, there is a feeling in the local community that this service is being deliberately run down to justify its eventual removal – a course of action that would leave many without a bus service at all.”
