Parking cost signs are planned
PLANNING permission is being sought to erect signage informing residents they must pay to park at Langsett Barn.
Yorkshire Water’s plans to introduce pay meters and ANPR cameras at Langsett Barn’s car park were given the green light by the Peak District National Park earlier this month. The A616 Manchester Road, where the car park is located, has been blighted by crashes in recent years – including two deaths in
2019 and a collision last October which left a man with life-changing injuries.
Local councillors and MP Miriam Cates, who represents Penistone and Stocksbridge, backed a bid to force Yorkshire Water into performing a U-turn on the plans.
A consultation has recently opened on the controversial changes, but plans to erect new signage has already been submitted to Barnsley Council.
The sign, which states ‘pay to stay’, will be added to the car park if plans were approved.
Public consultation ends on November 21.
