Bright nights will shine in town centre again...

-

BARNSLEY’S Bright Nights festival will return later this month – with the Christmas lights switch-on kicking off the three-day event.

Starting on Thursday, November 24, the Christmas lights will be switched on in the Glass Works Square – featuring a music and pyrotechnic outdoor show from The Lips.

A giant disco ball sculpture by artist Shaun Collins will also be on display in the centre, reflecting the long history of glass making across the borough. A light art trail will also be available across multiple venues in Barnsley town centre – including a giant nine-metre-long robotic snail who will welcome guests at Barnsley College.

St Mary’s Church will host a new Christmas tree festival, with trees decorated by local schools, charities, and community groups from across Barnsley.

On the Saturday, the Bright

Nights Parade will welcome a host of community groups who will journey from the Civic to the Glass Works.

Starting at 6pm, the parade will be accompanied by futurist robotic drummers and illuminated creations.

Coun Robert Frost, cabinet spokesperson for regeneration and culture, said: “Barnsley Bright Nights is always a spectacular occasion, and we look forward to welcoming thousands of visitors over the three days.

“This creative, free festival offers entertainment for all ages and interests.

“Barnsley’s reputation as a retail and leisure destination continues to grow, outperforming other comparable towns and cities.

“If you haven’t visited Barnsley for a while, we’d love to welcome you back during Bright Nights.”
