Police panel reviews ‘stop and search’ use

-

SOUTH Yorkshire Police held the latest of their six-weekly panels last week regarding their use of stop and search in the area.

The police view a selection of stops selected at random by South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Dr Alan Billings’ office and review feedback on those searches. Submitted complaints can then be reviewed and the police can better their practice when it comes to using the stop and search service.

A spokesperson said: “The members of the panel reflect the views of Barnsley and other areas in South Yorkshire, providing accountability to the public – this helps educate the public on how, why and when the use of stop and search is valuable.”

The panels are run by the force’s stop and search lead Chief Inspector Sarah Gilmour and Sargeant Lee Emmott.

The next scrutiny panel will be held on December 15.
