Wombwell Town end winless run with home derby victory over North Gawber

WOMBWELL Town ended a four-game winless run in the Premier Division with a 2-0 victory at home to fellow Barnsley club North Gawber.

Jordan Cooper and James Copley scored for Town who are now sixth with 12 points from seven games in their first top flight season.

Town manager Karl Rose said: “We’ve had a good start in a tough league.

“We’ve drawn too many but hopefully now we can string a few wins together.

“Gawber are one of the best sides in the league so we’re delighted. They were the better side in the first half but missed chances then we were better in the second half and took our chances.”

Town are seven points off leaders Dodworth MW with a game in hand.

Dodworth won 2-0 at home to South Kirkby. They have won six and drawn one of their last seven games.

Wombwell Main thrashed Houghton Main 6-0.

The scorers were Atley Jackson, twice, Jake Simon, Ryan Wingrove, Lewis Field and Aaron Tate.

Main are fourth with 14 points from seven games and a goal difference of +15.

Penistone Church reserves won 5-1 at Ecclesfiel­d Red Rose.

Bradley Kemp, Jordan Machen, Jack Roberts, Florent Fadiga and Alfie Broughton scored.

Silkstone United won 4-3 at home to Swinton Athletic reserves to go top of Division One.

Brad Oates scored twice with Liam Collins and Louie Taylor also on target.
