Ladies beat Blades 7-1 for fifth straight win

BARNSLEY Ladies gained a fifth successive league win with a 7-1 thrashing of Sheffield United Community Foundation.

Lynn Goodman and Sadie Hooper bagged braces with Jodie Gregory, Ellie Newsam and Georgina Wilson-Roberts also on the scoresheet.

The Reds have won their last five league games after losing the opening match of the season.

They are second in the North East League Southern Division, three points behind leaders Handsworth who have played two extra games. Barnsley are now due to visit pointless bottom club Bradford Park Avenue on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Dearne and District won 7-0 at near neighbours Mind

Over Matter in the Sheffield and Hallamshir­e Women’s League.

There were seven different scorers for the Goldthorpe club with Kirsty Bentley, Danielle Burrows, Megan Govier, Sophie Norris, Lexie PalmerAttw­ood, Claire Unsworth and Emma Fleetwood all on target.

Dearne are third in Division Three with four wins and two losses from their six league games so far this season. Mind Over Matter, based in Brierley, are currently last with one point from six games.

Penistone Church won 9-0 at Dronfield in Division Two.

Jess Ross hit a hat-trick, there were two goals each for Jessica Barrow and Elizabeth Mellor while Bethany Ayrton and Courtney Wragg also netted. Worsbrough Bridge lost 7-3 at home to Swallownes­t.

Emily Hooson, Stephanie Marsland and Jenna-Lea Portress got the goals for Bridge.
