- By Jack Tolson

BARNSLEY Council will join local and regional partners to support Safeguarding Awareness Week.

Taking place next week, the council have been organising free events so residents can learn how they keep people safe and free from harm.

Some of the events include a safe places walk next Thursday, as well as a special town hall meeting with South Yorkshire Police.

Coun Jenny Platts, cabinet spokesperson for place, health and adult social care, said: “We want to make sure everyone has the best possible chance of enjoying life in good physical and mental health.

“This year, we wanted to highlight the importance of looking out for each other, as safeguarding is everybody’s business.

“With a wide range of free events planned, I’m excited to see communities come together to see how we can all help make Barnsley a safer place.”
