Tree planted in tribute to late Queen Elizabeth

-

BARNSLEY’S ‘Tree of Trees’ – in memory of the late Queen Elizabeth II – was planted in Locke Park last week.

Last Wednesday, Mayor of Barnsley Sarah Tattersall and Colonel George Kilburn MBE, Deputy Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, planted the tree.

The council was chosen as one of more than 300 organisations to receive a tree.

Designed by Thomas Heatherwick, these trees stood tall as a message of hope, regeneration and optimism during the Platinum Jubilee.

Standing outside Buckingham Palace, the ‘Tree of Trees’ placed the importance of trees at the heart of the historic celebrations for Her Majesty, who planted over 1,500 trees throughout her 70-year reign.

Coun Tattersall said: “We were delighted to be chosen to receive one of the special ‘Tree of Trees’, serving as a lasting tribute to Her Majesty’s extraordinary reign and building on the canopy’s living legacy in our borough.

“Many people across Barnsley came together to pay tribute to Her Majesty the Queen, showing the special place she held in the hearts of our communities.

“Last week’s tree planting gives our communities a space to remember our Queen and helps everyone be part of this special legacy, whether watching it grow or taking part in your own tree planting.

“If you’re in Locke Park, pay our living tribute to our Queen a visit.

“A big thank you to everyone who helped make this moving tribute possible.”
