Orthopaedic unit proposal

A BUSINESS case for a new orthopaedic unit has been backed by Barnsley Hospital in a bid to cut waiting lists.

Mexborough’s Montagu Hospital has been identified as the location of the potential new facility, which has received support from NHS trusts in

Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster.

In August 2022, 50,601 patients were on the waiting list – up from 27,509 when the pandemic began in March 2020. Of the patients on waiting lists, 1,382 have been waiting more than a year.
