Survivor singing group’s high hopes

-

A SINGING group formed by people whose lives have been changed by cancer are set to release their new single – and they’re hoping to make it to Christmas number one.

The We Can Survive Singers were formed in late 2018 with the message that ‘cancer doesn’t define you’.

Set up with a £5,000 grant from Macmillan Cancer Support – which funded the recording sessions with another £5,000 – the group went from strength to strength, winning a Proud of

Barnsley award a year later.

The community group offers emotional, social and peer support for people living with and beyond cancer across the borough.

Founder Cheryl Roberts told the Chronicle: “The group meets most Wednesday evenings at St Paul’s Church, Old Town at 5.45pm to 7.45pm and they enjoy a weekly catch-up along with singing uplifting songs together.

“The lyrics were written by the ‘We Can Survive Singers’ and Simon Grainger, and are based around experiences of singing together, outings and adventures and also highlight the close bond of support they have with each other. The song is called ‘Catch Me When I Fall’.

“The EP will be available to download from iTunes and Amazon Music and can be streamed on Spotify and all other digital platforms.

“What would be wonderful is if people would download the single called ‘Catch Me If I Fall’ on December 1 and help make it into the charts.”
