TWO BARNSLEY teams are into the quarter-finals of the Sheffield Senior

Cup after an action-placed week of last 16 games.

Wombwell Town, who play in the County Senior League, won 1-0 at Harworth Colliery on Saturday.

Luke Haslam got the winner just after half-time.

North Gawber are also in the competition but do not play until December 6 at Emley AFC.

Penistone Church won 4-0 at home to Parkgate, who play a division below them in the NCEL, on Wednesday evening.

Josh Brown opened the scoring in the 14th minute then, seconds later, Danny Howes made it 2-0.

An own goal put the hosts 3-0 up before the break then Tom Brennan completed the rout midway through the second half.

Senior player Brett Lovell said: “It’s a fantastic win.

“We dominated the game from start to finish.

“We said before that Parkgate’s league position is false and it would be difficult.

“They have changed manager and made some signings.

“It was fantastic to watch the lads, collectively from one to 11 then the subs who came on.

“We moved the ball really well on a difficult surface and we were a threat from set-pieces.

“If we are going to be critical, we could have had more, and been four or five up in the first half.

“We’re through to the next round in a competition which we want to get as far as we can in.

“It’s a local competition and we would love to get to the final.”

On Saturday, Penistone won 4-0 at home to Bottesford Town in the NCEL Premier Division.

Wayne Hughes and Brown scored within seconds of each other midway through the first half then Cameron Simpson netted twice late on.

That ended a run of five straight losses in all competitions, without scoring in three.

They are now 11th with 24 points from 16 games.

Manager Stephen Lenthall said: “I’m really proud of the lads, we asked them for a reaction and we got it.

“It just shows they are there, they’re still together and the intensity is present.

“Josh Brown made his debut for the club after joining from Worsborough and he’s given his all.

“He’s been superb and he set the tone for the front line.”

Worsbrough Bridge’s cup tie at home to Nostell on Wednesday was called off following heavy rain.

Bridge had won 2-1 at home to fellow strugglers Glasshoughton in the NCEL

Division One on Saturday.

All the goals were in the first 35 minutes as, after Harley Holt’s opener was cancelled out, Elliot Wilson won it.

Bridge are now five points clear of the relegation zone with 17 from 19 games – the halfway point of the season.

Athersley Rec lost 5-1 Horbury Town on Saturday.

Jamie Moxon levelled at 1-1 but the hosts netted four in the second half.

Rec are third-bottom with 12 points from 18 games, four points adrift of safety.

They have lost ten and drawn two of their last 12 in all competitions.
