Barnsley club runners enjoy success in Gainsborou­gh, Tadcaster and Clowne

BARNSLEY club runners have collected prizes and personal bests at various races this week.

At the Gainsborou­gh 10k, Penistone’s Jonathan Bentley picked up bronze in the men’s over55 category. His time was 37-54.

Three Barnsley Harriers ran the Gainsborou­gh race with Janie Kitching fourth over60 woman.

Barnsley AC’s Keith Littlewood finished as fourth over 50 man in a season’s best time of 37-58. Lydia Race was third over35, taking 47 seconds off her PB with 40 minutes exactly.

Penistone’s David Napier and Rob Davies made the trip to Derby ten-mile race, posting times of 1-11-12 and 1-17-47 respective­ly.

Six Penistone athletes made the trip to the Tadcaster ten-mile race.

First back for the club in a new personal best for the ten-mile distance was James Mumford who placed 26th in a field of over 700 runners with a time of 58-20. Also breaking the 60-minute barrier was Andrew Heppenstal­l, posting a time of 58-58.

Dawn Broom was the first woman back for the club and placed second overall in the women’s over55 category in a time of 1-13-53.

Another runner finishing on the podium was Martin Ball who grabbed third place in the men’s over50 age category in 1-01-12.

Barnsley AC’s Chris McNicholas ran his longest race yet, having only started running last year.

He finished as fourth over60 man in a time of 1-07-56, 31 seconds behind the first runner in his age category.

Simon Haywood was the first of eight Barnsley Harriers at the Clowne Half Marathon, finishing 45th overall out of 777 finishers.

After knocking a huge nine minutes and 52 seconds off his personal best at Worksop less than a month ago, Ryan Senior had a fine run in Clowne to reduce his best time by another three minutes and six seconds. It was his third half marathon PB this year.

First back for the Penistone club was Will Hoyland in 1-25-25 which gave him 24th place and sixth in the men’s open category.

First woman back for Penistone was Chloe Worth who finished just outside the medals in the women’s over45 category in fourth place with 1-43-19.

Barnsley AC’s Michael Grain finished ninth in a season’s best of 1-20-59.

Dave Brooksbank was first over60 man in 1-36-48. Darrell Harrison finished in 1-53-30 and Ian Copley ran a season’s best of 2-00-41. Jayne Manley knocked just over seven minutes off her PB set in March, finishing in 2-20-21.

At the third round of the Dark and White Events Autumn Trail Race Series, Barnsley Harrier Caroline Batty completed the Grindlefor­d Trail Race in 138th out of 203 with 1-51-00.

At the latest Peak Raid orienteeri­ng event, Penistone’s Steve Sanders collected a score of 480 points which placed him 14th overall.

By finishing the Conwy Half Marathon,

Penistone’s Keith Gordon completed the tough Four Castles Series in North Wales.

In the latest round of the Penistone Footpath Runners’ Winter Handicap,

Tracy Woodward won with Helen Mines second and Sarah Norman third.

Fastest woman on the night was Suzanne McGill in 34-51, while fastest man was George Parr in 26-51.

Matt Robinson was first in the agegraded competitio­n.

In the junior competitio­n the winners were Lauren Lees (under 11 girls), Millie Lees (under 13 girls), Graihagh Turner (under 15 girls), Arthur Philips (under 11 boys), Vincent Hillman (under 13 boys), Flynn Rogers (under 15 boys) and Oliver France (under 17 boys).

Penistone’s George Parr was first at the Penistone ParkRun in 17-40.

Penistone’s Julia Johnson was second woman at the Dewsbury ParkRun.

At the Nostell Priory ParkRun, Sarah Walch was first woman and Damien Kilpin was second man.

Barnsley AC’s Michael Slack and Ryan Pleasants were the first and second finishers at the Barnsley ParkRun with times of 17-43 and 18-32 respective­ly.
