Mould and damp tackled

-

WORK is being stepped up to protect tenants whose rented homes are being impacted by mould and damp, according to a council report.

The North East Area Council, which employs a housing officer to boost living standards for renters in villages such as Cudworth, Grimethorpe and Royston, revealed 68 cases are currently open regarding tenants’ concerns.

The officer, Chris Platts, has already dealt with 49 cases in the July to September period.

He said: “I am starting to see more damp and mould complaints, although for the most part the issue is down to a lack of ventilation.

“I will be targeting properties to tackle this problem and to offer advice to tenants, particularly as the cost of living increases and people opt to use less fuel.”
