Stones helps England into last 16 of World Cup

-

BARNSLEY man John Stones has been an ever-present in the England team that won their group at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar this week.

Ex-Red Stones, from Thurlstone, played in the 0-0 draw against USA on Friday then the 3-0 win against Wales on Tuesday.

Those results, following on from the 6-2 opening win over Iran, meant England finished first in their group.

They are now due to play Senegal in the last 16 on Sunday from 7pm while Stones has moved onto 62 caps.

Kieran Trippier, the former Reds loanee, played in the first two games but was benched for the Wales game.

Former Barnsley striker Kieffer Moore played in all three games for Wales who have been knocked out.
