Street lighting bill slashed by a third

-

THE cost of lighting Barnsley streets has been cut by more than a third in the last three years.

In 2019, the council paid more than £1.1m to keep its street lights on – but last year, the cost fell to just over £750,000.

A council spokesperson said: “Energy usage on street lighting has reduced significantly over the past few years following the move to LEDs.

“As part of the council’s energy and carbon reduction strategy, we are looking at a number of options to reduce our energy usage further.”
