Barnsley club runners take prizes at Percy Pud 10k in Sheffield

THERE was success for Barnsley runners at the Percy Pud 10k Road Race.

The event in Sheffield attracted nearly 3,000 runners with each one getting a Christmas Pudding at the end of the race. Starting in Loxley, the route heads out alongside the Damflask Reservoir to Low Bradfield before turning back to Loxley. This year it was held in testing conditions with rain and low temperatur­es. First back for Penistone Footpath Runners was George Parr who finished 61st in a personal best of 35-15.

He was closely followed by Andrew Heppenstal­l who finished in 35-27.

The first Penistone woman back was Rachael Mayston in 43-08.

Rachael also picked up a silver medal in the women’s over50 category.

Over55 man Andrew Pearson took gold in his category.

There was a silver medal for Martin

Ball (over50 men) and a bronze for Bill Phillips (over70 men).

Dave Allemby, from Wombwell, who now competes for Rotherham Running Club, recorded a time of 48-32 for 966th position and was seventh over65 man. It was 45 years to the day since he competed in his first ever road race, the 1977 Barnsley Marathon.

Eighteen Barnsley AC members ran with six coming away with 10k PBs. Lydia Race took another 49 seconds off with 39-11 while finishing as third over35 woman.

Scott Hinchcliff­e was seventh man and Dave Brooksbank second over60 man. Gail Colville equalled her PB from 2018 and claimed the second over55 women’s trophy in a time of 41-13.

Phillip Tyas was the first of 15 Barnsley Harriers at the Percy Pud.

There was one Harriers PB, with Wayne Sidebottom taking 10-26 seconds off.

Barnsley AC’s Paul Fieldsend headed to warmer climes to take on the Valencia Marathon. His time was 3-40-26.

At the second South Yorkshire Indoor Track League fixture, Barnsley AC’s under 11 Boy Alfie Pleasants ran 2-21.29 in the 600m and 27.04 for 150m. He also threw 8.5m in the javelin.

Under 11 girl Erin Collins finished the 600m in 2-35.06 and 150m in 28.44. She finished the long jump with 2.10m.

Under 13 girls Beau Beecroft and Daisy Hatfield ran 600m in 2-08.43 and 2-15.85 respective­ly. They both ran the 200m as well, Beau finishing in 35-47 and Daisy in 37-32. Beau also recorded 23.33 in the 150m.

Penistone’s Becky Timms picked up a bronze in the women’s over40 category at the Gravy Pud Fell Race in a time of 50-44.

Steve Storey collected bronze in the men’s over65 age category in 52-21.

In the final Peak Raid orienteeri­ng event in Baslow, Penistone’s Steve Sanders was third in the men’s over50 category and 15th overall.

This gave Steve an overall position of tenth for the series and made him third over50 man.

Penistone’s Lisa Hinchliffe achieved the milestone of 200 ParkRuns while completing the Wakefield ParkRun.

Penistone’s Helen Wright was second woman finisher at the Penistone ParkRun in 24-42.

Tom Fryers ran the fastest ParkRun time by a Penistone athlete this year when completing the Storeys Field ParkRun in 17-11.

At the Hillsborou­gh Junior ParkRun,

Flynn Rogers won in 8-15.

Barnsley Harriers held their annual Cross Country Championsh­ips at Silverwood, Silkstone.

Alan Ford won both the overall and the veterans’ championsh­ips for the fourth year running, with David Thompson finishing as runner-up in the veterans’ championsh­ip for the second year running. New member Adam Chambers won the senior men’s category with another new member Josh Jordan-Clough in second place.

Lisa Clarkson won the women’s overall championsh­ip for the second year running with Katie Roberts in second place.

Lisa also won the senior women’s championsh­ip with Emma Moorhouse runner up for the third time.

Katie Roberts won the women’s veterans’ championsh­ip for the first time with last year’s winner Kelly Ford in second place.
