Town’s dancing talent to come together
A NEW scheme is hoping to celebrate Barnsley’s dancing talent with a special event.
The partnership – between Tala LeeTurton Productions, Barnsley Civic and Barnsley Council – is set to deliver the Barnsley Dancing Symposium on April 25.
Inspired by Barnsley-born dancer Tala’s journey, the symposium – which is commissioned and funded by Barnsley Council’s regeneration and culture service – seeks to motivate others to create a vibrant dance community in town.
Tala said: “As someone who has navigated the path from Barnsley to the international dance stage, I’m passionate about creating opportunities for local talent to thrive.
“Our goal is to create a dialogue that bridges the gap between local and national dance ecosystems and showcase the diverse and dynamic work of Barnsley’s artists.
“It’s about opening doors, sharing insights, and working together to elevate the profile of dance in Barnsley and exploring opportunities that can lead to tangible growth in the dance industry.”
Following the talent showcase, a discussion will take place exploring the opportunities for growth and development of Barnsley dance productions.
Anthony Baker, chief executive at Barnsley Civic, added: “This symposium recognises the potential of Barnsley’s dance community and the gap between local and national dance communities.
“We have a wealth of talent here and this is an opportunity to celebrate it and discuss practical pathways for their national and international exposure.”
