Graihagh first woman on fells and James 2nd in coastal marathon

PENISTONE Footpath Runner Graihagh Turner was first woman in 24-05 at the Hoppits Hill fell race near Mirfield.

Second overall was George Parr in a time of 21-44. There were age group victories for Barbara Haigh (over70 women) and Ray Brown (over80 men) plus second places for Lorraine Mackie (over50 women), Martyn Goodwin (over60 men) and Nick Whittingha­m (over70 men).

Penistone’s James Fryers took second place in the Northumber­land Coast Half Marathon. James completed the route in 1-29-27 and was first male under 20.

Some Penistone runners took on the The Doctors Gate fell race near Glossop.

The race is 12.7 miles in distance but covers 3,000 feet of climbing. Those completing the route successful­ly were Sarah Walch, Damian Kilpin, Chris Hodgson, Andrew Shelbourne and Mark Law.

In her final race in the women’s over50 age category, Penistone’s Dawn Broom gained first place in her category and was tenth woman overall at the Bath Two Tunnels Half Marathon.

Penistone’s Lesley Parker finished in 50-55 which gave her a place inside the top 50 at the Shirebrook Steel City Trail 10k race.

Barnsley AC held their monthly Parkrun Championsh­ip at Barnsley ParkRun. Gail Colville and Chris McNicholas topped the age grade competitio­n with 87.67 per cent and 82.27 per cent. Chris beat his age grade target of 82.15 per cent and ran a course PB of 19-50. Gail was first female finisher in 21-13. Nigel Morton was the only other member to beat their age grade target, running 21-42 for 63.36 per cent. Anne Bennett equalled her target of 72.42 per cent, finishing as first over70 woman in 32-20. Scott Hinchliffe was the first finisher in a time of 17-59. Barnsley AC’s Emily Hodgkinson was first female finisher and second overall at Barnsley Junior ParkRun, one second off her PB, in 9-14.

There were ParkRun first places for Penistone’s James Mumford (Brighouse), Julia Johnson (Nostell), Rachael

Mayston (Penistone) and Flynn Rogers

(Hillsborou­gh Junior).

There was a second place for Emma Moore at Barnsley. Stuart Woodhead completed his 150th ParkRun at

Hillsborou­gh. Age-graded performanc­es of the week were Dawn Broom (88.44 per cent), Julia Johnson (84.29 per cent), Rachael Mayston (80.86 per cent), Tom Fryers (78.01 per cent) and James Mumford (76.60 per cent).
