Mesa/Boogie has several new Subway bass amp variants: the WD-800 amp, Ultra-Lite 2x12, 2x15
vertical and 4x10 cabs, and the Subway+ Bass DI-Preamp. The WD-800 is like a powered-up version of Mesa’s Walkabout bass head, pairing a tube preamp with Class D output, rotary shelving tone controls, semi-parametric EQ, a high-pass filter and power amp damping. The Ultra-Lite cabs are made from lightweight Italian poplar and come with Subway Neodymium speakers. The Subway+ DI-Preamp is based on the Subway D-800+ amp. It’s got gain and level controls, tone shaping and twoband semi-parametric EQ, all in a compact DI box.
In other amp news, Peavey have launched the lightweight MAX bass amp series with an angled baffle to keep the low end omni-directional and the transient tones directional, so you can hear yourself clearly without having to tilt the amp back. The range includes 100, 150 and 250-watt models with the company’s Kosmos-C bass enhancement for extra harmonics and subharmonics, clip-limiting speaker protection technology and an ultra-quiet DI output.
