BROOKSY ON BASS
With apps for everything, it would seem, your mobile
phone is your sidekick as a musician. Yet one feature that many musicians fail to use is the voice recorder, especially regarding recording gigs and performances. You can obviously spend money on dedicated devices, which generally provide better audio quality if you use an external mic – but if you’re just starting out, or if you need to analyse your playing in a live context, recording yourself is very worthwhile. Not only can you hear how you’re locking in with a drummer, you can also listen back to your ability to create a groove, making a band flow, lick accuracy and phrasing.
Hot Tip: Use your audio files as a platform to work from and improve your playing. They’re also very useful for building a library of gig recordings when you dep with different bands; you can use them for future reference.
