Bass Player

The Radiators Plan 9 Television Screen (2004) / The Summer Season (2005)

o’Riordan’s brief spell with the Dublin punk legends yielded two EPs that seemed throwaway and somewhat out of their time. Sometime Pogues player Phil Chevron was also involved when the band reformed for a Joe Strummer tribute, but things were far from stable. Diagnosed with depression, O’Riordan had spent three months in rehab at the Priory. Despite a support slot with U2 in Dublin in 2005, it wasn’t to last and O’Riordan vacated the bass spot soon after. What remains superb is her vocal on ‘Kitty Rickets’, from the Television Screen EP. The frantic bass throughout the two releases is full of energy, but there’s also a raggedness about ‘Sunday World’ and ‘Electric Shares’ that was previously absent from the bassist’s work. From here, the only way was up for the troubled musician, and O’Riordan – sober for the best part of a decade – recently joined an ace new band, Bitchface, fronted by Syd Straw.
