Megadeth’s David Ellefson has partnered with Jackson for a new signature bass, the CBXM IV and V. The design of the new X Series Signature Ellefson Concert Bass reflects its owner’s highspeed, high-precision playing style, featuring a resonant poplar body with an upper contour that provides a stable anchor for pick or fingerstyle playing. There’s also a graphite-reinforced bolt-on quartersawn maple neck, a maple fingerboard, a heelmount truss-rod thumbwheel and a Jackson HiMass bridge. As for tones, active EMG J bridge and EMG P neck pickups provide Ellefson’s signature midrange and an active 3-band EQ includes a blend control for extra punch and cut.
Jackson’s JS Series Spectra Bass also gets an overhaul, with new quilt maple top options. Its features list includes the expected graphite-reinforced neck and EQ layout, but the main idea here is that the body shape is designed for maximum weight distribution and thus better balance. Both basses have traditional headstocks, giving them appeal beyond the metal legions that know and love the super-pointy top end of the previous Ellefson model and others. www.jacksonguitars.com/gear/ basses
