The Bath Sports Awards are back for a seventh year and it’s time to get nominating. Here is your chance to celebrate the sporting greats, unsung heroes and heroines in and around the city as we celebrate the clubs, coaches, sportsmen, women and children who have been top performers in the past 12 months. Some nominees may have already made the headlines but if there’s someone making a difference in the community who deserves public praise, we want to know about them. As ever, there are nine categories open for nominations. They are Sports Personality of the Year; Young Sports Personality of the Year; Senior Team of the Year; Junior Team of the Year; Coach of the Year; Outstanding Services to Sport in Bath; Disability Sports Performer of the Year; Community Club of the Year and Professional Sports Personality of the Year. The title sponsor for this year’s awards are Stadium for Bath - the body made up of Bath Rugby, Bath Rugby Foundation and Arena 1865, working together to deliver a new stadium at the Rec. Bath Rugby CEO Tarquin Mcdonald said: “The Bath Sports Awards celebrate grassroots sport, from the clubs and coaches to the individual sportsmen, women and children out there making a real difference. “Sport plays a fundamental role in our communities. It brings people together and removes socioeconomic barriers. “It talks a language that we all understand and has the power to make a profoundly positive impact on people’s lives. “We believe that by redeveloping our stadium in the centre of Bath and keeping sport in the heart of the city, we can continue to inspire the next generations to get involved and take part in grassroots sport. “We can also address the disproportionate social need in our city by expanding the important work we deliver alongside Bath Rugby Foundation. “Stadium for Bath is about keeping sport in the heart of the city. It’s about sport’s role in the community and it’s about rugby acting as a catalyst for riverside regeneration, the provision of a lasting social legacy and the creation of a new destination in the heart of Bath that benefits everyone.” Bath Ales are sponsoring the Outstanding Services award and Platinum Motor Group are getting behind the Professional Sports Personality category. The awards ceremony will be held at The Assembly Rooms on Bennett Street, on the night of Tuesday, November 20. Esteemed broadcaster John Inverdale will once again be our host. Last year’s big winner was Paralympic sprinter Sophie Kamlish, who was crowned Sports Personality and Disability Sports Performer of the Year. England cricketer Anya Shrubsole was named Professional Sports Personality of the Year for her World Cup final heroics against India. The deadline for this year’s nominations is Tuesday, September 4. To submit an entry and for more information, visit www.bathsportsawards.co.uk.
