All Star coach scoops award

-

A local cricket coach has won an ECB award in recognition for his tireless efforts bringing on the next generation. Lansdown Cricket Club’s Dave Peters runs the All Stars program at his club, which boasts over 140 children from age six and upwards every Sunday morning. Last year under his stewardship, the club was the regional winner among all clubs to take part, and runners-up in the scheme nationally. Now Peters’ individual efforts have been rewarded, as he received the Somerset Coach of the Year gong. “The award to me is an excellent recognition of what the coaches at Lansdown CC have achieved over the last year in our junior section.,” he said. “I’m extremely proud that the Lansdown Junior set up is starting to get noticed for the work we do and have been doing for the last ten years. “To receive the award means a lot to me and everyone at the club. “I’d like to thank everyone at Lansdown for everything they do for the running of the club; the junior sections and of course the youth and junior players. “Also everyone who attends our All Stars, all 147 children and parents which has boosted National recognition and helped us win the ECB OSCA award for All Stars club of the Year in the South West and Wales Region. “We are current third in the country for the second year running with our number of All Stars, which is fantastic.” To collect his award, Peters was a VIP guest for England’s ODI series opener against Australia at the Oval, in London, the hosts winning by three wickets. “The experience was fantastic,” he said. “Accepting the award with all the other winners is certainly something that I won’t forget. “The awards being handed out by Graham Thorpe was a particular highlight – I always used to watch him with my father when I was younger so that was a special moment. “Another highlight was seeing Lansdown CC very own All Stars video on the big screens at The Oval.”
