New boy aware of City talent

-

Robbie Cundy’s first-hand experience of Bath City figured in his move to Twerton Park. The giant centre-half, who stands at 6ft 4in, was part of a double signing revealed last week, alongside Adam Mann. Having spent last season at Gloucester, and time with Oxford City the campaign before that, Cundy was well aware of what the club has to offer when making his switch. “I’m delighted,” he said after putting pen to paper on his deal. “I’ve been in this league a while now so I know what they’re about; I’ve played them a few times. “I like the way they play and I can’t wait to get started. “I was at Gloucester last season and played them home and away. They were tough games, obviously here it was 5-1. “I know what the league is about. Like I said, I’ve been at a few clubs at this level, played a few games, so I think I’ll be a good addition.” A former prospect with Oxford United, Cundy recognised a couple of his new team-mates stepping out for his first pre-season session on Saturday. He also sought out the advice of Oxford youth team-mate Miles Welch-hayes, who departed City for a full-time contract with EFL outfit Macclesfield Town this summer, following a fine last season with the Romans. “I know a few of the lads already,” Cundy said. “Pre-season’s always tough but I’m looking to hit the ground running. “I’ve been chatting to Miles. Obviously he’s done well getting that move to Macclesfield, so I’m happy for him. He’s always spoken highly of this club, so that helped me choose them as well. “A few of the boys, Ryan Clarke was at Oxford and Sean Rigg; Millsy [John Mills] lives near me as well.” Like Mann, Gill has long held interest the possibility of signing Cundy. The 21-year-old said: “I spoke to him previously in the season, had a few words and he said he liked me. I’ve seen how they play so I know what they’re about. “He seems like a good, young coach and I can’t wait to get started.” Though an imposing figure at the back, Cundy also says he comfortable with the ball at his feet. “I like to think I can play, being a centre-half,” he said. “I just think I can step in on the ball, string a few passes together and obviously still defend at the same time. “Maybe I can bring a few goals, hopefully, but we’ll see.”
